Quite difficult to pronunce - Transfagarasan Road - but, what a fabulous road!

This amazing road is located in Romania and connects the southern part of Romania, Walahia with Transylvania, the center of Romania.

Transfagarasan Road croses Carpathian Mountains at an altitude of over 2000 meters and offers incredible views over the landscapes !

On the top, you will be amazed by Balea Glaciar Lake which is frozen from November till May. Also there it is an Ice Hotel.

Transfagarasan Road started to be contructed in 1969 and was finalised after only 5 years, in 1974. It has 4 tunels. More that 40 people lost their lifes during the constructions. 3 milion tones of solid rock were removed and more that 6200 tones of TNT were used for that.

Today, Transfagarasan Road is a major attraction of Romania and atracts milions each year. Of course, one of the best experiences is to drive on Transfagarasan Road ! For those who preffer a more comfortable ride, we have different tours on Transfagarasan Road.

Transfagarasan Road is open only  from July 1st till October 31st. After November 1st, the only way to reach Balea Lake on the top of the mountain is by cable car, a fabulos ride over the mountains !
